There’s no need to introduce you to the Civilization series of turn-based strategy games . However, if you’re a fan of the genre, the seventh opus in the series was recently released, and TechpowerUp is testing its usual panel of 35 graphics cards on it. So, what about the game’s performance? Clearly, it runs very well, and even older configurations should do well!
Civilization VII: even an RTX 3050 makes coffee!
In terms of memory consumption, as you can see, the game requires very little VRAM to run, especially with graphics parameters set to low. In these conditions, a 4 GB card will suffice, while a slightly more generous model will be needed for high memory: 8 GB seems sufficient.
In terms of performance, it’s worth noting that at 1080p, all cards are capable of running the title at 60 FPS… All without the need for upscaling technologies such as FSR or DLSS. This is good news, since owners of older configurations won’t have to change their hardware to play this new opus in the franchise.
In 1440p, there are no major problems to play the game either. Indeed, an RX 6600 seems to be the minimum here, since the card in question achieves an average of 59.7 FPS. Only the RTX 3050 will have a little more trouble with its 53.6 FPS… However, it’s worth a try, and even at 50 fps there shouldn’t be any glaring fluidity issues. What’s more, Intel’s Arc cards also do very well, with frame rates in excess of 80 FPS.
In UHD, gaming is a little more demanding, with the RX 7700 XT and RTX 3070 reaching a limit of 60 fps. But that’s to be expected, as UHD is still a resource-hungry resolution!
