This would make for a good option for a cost-effective AM4 build that you plan on using for 1080 gaming or even video-editing and 3D rendering.

What we like about the Ryzen 5 5500
This CPU came out back in 2022, and is very much directed at those who want solid performance, but for an affordable price-point. Over the years, this processor has dropped further in price, making it even more appealing from a cost perspective.
It’s also an AM4 socket processor, which is another way to keep build costs down, as many compatible components are a little older. You can essentially take your pick of DDR4 RAM, PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, and more to complete your build, and many of these still hold strong today.
- Key specs: You’re getting 6 cores, 12 threads, a 19MB cache, and 4.2 GHz Max Boost.
- Cost effective platform: AM4 is still going strong and gives you loads of ways to save cash on other components in comparison to the newer AM5.
- Cooler included: This CPU comes with a Wraith Stealth Cooler, meaning you don’t have to shell out for new one.
- Runs cool: This CPU has a very modest 65W TDP, making it a super versatile choice for a variety of builds.
Who’s this deal for?
It’s a smart time to grab this processor if you’re putting together a budget build and want to save some extra cash. As you can see from the graph above, the price of this processor has been trending down for sometime now, but has a few more significant dips every now and again. Now appears to be one of those dips, making it a good time to take advantage of it.
There are other options you may want to consider that pack a bit more of a punch and are currently reduced at the time of writing. The Ryzen 5 5600XT is currently reduced at $129.99, and boasts a larger 36MB cache. The Ryzen 5 9600X is also currently reduced at $208.00, and has impressive specs for the money, but it will need an AM5 compatible motherboard.
